The Won Community Service Center (WCSC) and Won Buddhism of Philadelphia, Inc. are pleased to offer three scholarships for graduating Montgomery County high school seniors. These scholarships are open to all eligible college-bound students who meet the application criteria. We encourage all qualified students to apply and look forward to supporting the next generation in their academic journey. The following guidelines have been formulated to assist students in the application process. Please read through the entire scholarship application and guidelines before completing the application.
** General Guidelines **
Applicants should be college-bound seniors attending Montgomery County high schools. Students will be judged based on three criteria: academic achievement (through grades, honors and awards), extracurricular school activities, and community involvement for the betterment of society.
The applicant must be expected to graduate with an overall high school GPA of B or higher in June 2025.
Each scholarship application must include a completed application form and high school transcripts (from 9th grade through the 1st & 2nd marking periods of 12th grade), including SAT I, SAT II scores and/or Advanced Placement test scores (if applicant has taken any or all of these tests).
A recommendation letter from your guidance counselor or teacher must also be included.
If the application is approved, students must be available for an online interview on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Scholarship winners will be announced on April 12, 2025. At that time, each scholarship awardee must email one digital photo to WCSC to be used in a press release to local newspapers.
Winners must also be prepared to attend the Award Ceremony on Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
** Informational Guidelines **
To apply for one of three (3) $1,000.00 scholarships, please attach (one page or less for each item listed below) to your scholarship application. Please clearly mark each document and submit all required documents with your application form by email (bokhyae@woncommunity.org)
Resume: Summarize educational history, honors and activities, and work experience (both paid and volunteer).
Educational Objectives: Explain how the classes you have chosen during high school will enhance your ability to pursue your college, career and life goals.
Involvement in High School Activities: Describe your involvement in high school activities. (School government, sports activities, volunteer efforts, etc.)
Involvement in Community volunteer efforts outside of high school
Description About How Your Life Experience Has Impacted You: Write to the Scholarship Committee an essay describing how your life experience has shaped you into the person you are today.
- All applicants must sign the Certification of Accuracy and Release of Information Waiver.
- The application deadline is at 5:00PM, Saturday, March 22, 2025.
- Screening Process is on Saturday, March 29, 2025, by Scholarship Committee
- Scholarship winners will be announced on April 12, 2025.
- The Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
